Accessibility
Many web sites contain significant barriers to access by not considering disabled users in the design phase. This web site design has followed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines to ensure that the web site is as accessible as possible. This web site meets Bobby Accessibility Approval at Level 1 (Bobby A).
Features include:
- Simple use of layout tables which still allow content to read when the tables are displayed in a simple browser such as Lynx.
- All images contain an alternative textual rendering.
- All tables contain additional markup that may help assistive technologies such as screen readers.
- Style sheets have been implemented to separate content from display.
- HTML tags have been used appropriately according to the Strict HTML 4.01 specification.
- Access key shortcuts have been allocated.
Access keys
Access keys are keyboard shortcuts intended to help users who have difficulty in using pointing devices such as a mouse. Not every user has a graphic environment with a mouse or other pointing device — some rely on keyboard, alternative keyboard or voice input to navigate.
The access key shortcuts are allocated as follows:
- Key 1 — Home Page
- Key 2 — History
- Key 3 — Willem
- Key 4 — Leta
- Key 5 — Jacques
- Key 6 — Lisa
- Key 7 — News
- Key 8 — Contact
- Key 0 — Sitemap and accessibility information
Use access key shortcuts like this:
PC running Windows using Internet Explorer v5+ — Press and hold the ALT key, press the appropriate Access Key, and then press ENTER.
PC running Windows using Mozilla, Firefox or Netscape v6+ — Press and hold the ALT key, then press the appropriate Access Key.
PC running Windows using Internet Explorer v4.x — Press and hold the ALT key, then press the appropriate Access Key.
MacIntosh computing using Internet Explorer v5+ — Press and hold CMD, then press the appropriate Access Key.
Note that Opera and earlier versions of the above browsers do not support Access Keys.
