March 2004: Wanaka

From Cromwell we travelled north for another 50 kilometres towards Wanaka where we spent the first night (Friday( at the nearly luxurious Edgewater Resort on the shore of the huge Lake Wanaka. Early the next morning we went for a lovely walk along the beautiful lake Wanaka.

We paid a visit to the amazing Puzzling World just outside Wanaka. This is a place where not everything is as it seems to be or should be. The clock on the teetering clocktower runs backwards! Optical illusions assault the eye around every corner, until you wonder if you are hallucinating. Then you can take a break over a cup of coffee and try out the most mind–boggling puzzles set out on the tables in the cafeteria.

Here is a small taste of what we found at Puzzling World:

In this next photo it looks as if Lisa is a giant and Nadine got shrunk to a midget, but don't believe it! You cannot see it, but the floor and ceiling are built at very clever angles.
